The West End Citizens' Action Network (WECAN) has been around since the Spring of 2003. Formed as a group of people concerned with rising crime and disorder in the neighbourhood, this group has grown to include members with a wide range of backgrounds, interests and ideas.
We have roughly 150 members, if you can call us that. We’re an organization brought together by our common interests alone ~ no membership fees, no AGM, no commitment other than to show an interest in the well-being of the West End and be willing to offer your insight and opinions so that we can all learn from each other. WECAN once sought to become a non-profit organization, but has since decided to continue to operate as a true grass-roots organization. And it’s still working!
While it’s true that we do focus mostly on what’s now come to be known as “liveability issues” (crime, street disorder, drugs, etc) in the West End, we also recognize that other concerns in our neighbourhood, such as the proposed relocation of our major hospital, would also affect how this community thrives. To see a list of projects that WECAN has been, or is, involved in, please visit our Projects & Initiatives page.
As always,
WECAN would love to have you join us in making the West End the best neighbourhood
it can be. Feel free to drop in to our next meeting
~ you’re always welcome. |
